Modus operandi

 

I’m drawn towards painting people, faces and figures at a moment
in time, space, reflection, The more I travel, the more I’m inspired 
and energized by the incredible diversity but a commonality that 
we share.My art tries to capture something that is “everyday” in its 
context, but looking at as if for the first time, when it’s new and fresh 
and interesting. I work across mediums – oils, pastels, pencil, charcoal, 
watercolour, photography and mosaic – but predominantly oils. I like 
the richness of colour and texture with the flexibility of being able to 
work up the painting from the layers underneath. I’m like a bower bird 
with photographic images – I collect everything – both my own and 
anything else that even vaguely appeals. These visual reminders 
and references – which could be just a gesture, a colour or a shape, 
can then serve as starting point for creating something new and 
start “playing”.
