The following text is quoted from an article written by
Susan Rothnie For Evguenia's 2005 exhibition titled
"Human Souls Through Visual Objects"
"Often our closest relationships are the ones we least
acknowledge. These paintings by artist Evguenia Men
bring to our attention objects that, despite sharing
our personal spaces, are rarely appreciated for their
unique material qualities.

Rather they are dismissed as an adjunct to
human experience. Here, the artist has
investigated the physical vocabulary of the
everyday to demonstrate how, when allowed, the
seemingly humdrum becomes meaningful.

Mens work, which often occurs in a small series or
a set, explores the expressive qualities of
objects. By bringing her point of focus very
near, she is able to create a sense of
relationship, even of intimacy, with her subject.
This relationship is possible because of
the artists sensitivity to different forms
of existence.
"Red lamp transformation"
Oil,mixed media
on canvas.
Her idea is to tell the stories which are mutely
expressed by material characteristics. In
the way that a vignette explains an essence,
Mens sets reveal what, day to day, we
may fail to notice.
"red chair"
The expressionistic use of texture and colour
adds emotional intensity to the sense of symbolism
with which her compositions are imbued. Colour
reflects the emotions apprehended in a moment, while
forms are transformed from that which we see to that
which we feel.
"Orange still life",

mixed media on canvas,

Mens process of discovery becomes our own."
