Throughout my career I have found my projects to consistently fall outside,
or in between, traditional categories of artistic practice. Hence I have sought
out and developed creative partnerships with sound artists, visual artmakers,
performers, theatre makers, writers, critical theorists, dancers and scientists
in differing combinations, and have experienced how new forms may emerge
through these active collaborations. These works have been variously termed
new media, emerging genres, 'integrated media practices' or hybrid forms.
Above all I work to foster the 'art of collaboration' through my integrated
media practices, a process to which all members of the team must be closely
committed. This requires an openness and generosity from all, something
which is not always easy to achieve. However I have found that this approach
is most likely to lead to the team to create actively hybrid outcomes.
Furthermore as a new media practitioner I have found that digital image,
sound and interactive systems strongly assist in weaving the fabric of these
integrated media works.
